The department of Virology, PGIMER, Chandigarh carried out a 5 day Hands-on Training on Laboratory Quality Management Systems from 6th June, 2022 to 10th June, 2022 in collaboration with the Department of Health Research/ Indian Council of Medical Research.
The workshop was inaugurated on 6th June 2022 by Professor Vivek Lal Director PGIMER as Chief Guest and Professor GD Puri Dean Academics as Guest of Honour. The workshop was conducted under the supervision and guidance of Dr Mini P Singh, Professor & Nodal Officer, COVID-19 testing.
The main focus of the training was to enhance the quality management systems of already established Viral Research Diagnostics Laboratories under the DHR schemes.
This was the first of the three series of trainings planned and included 13 participants including faculty from 7 Virus Research Diagnostic labs from JIPMER, Puducherry; SKIMS, Kashmir; AIIMS, Bhopal; AIIMS, Raipur and Medical Colleges of Patiala, Tanda and Shimla.
The resource persons for the same were the faculty from PGIMER, scientists from Indian Council of Medical Association (ICMR) and also from Chennai.
The training involved all the aspects which are important for a diagnostics lab starting from samples collection to reporting and included all the modules of a Quality cycle.
Another emphasis during the training was on kit validation which is essential in a diagnostics lab concerning the plethora of kits available in the market.
This will help to develop a hub and spoke model of quality labs which will further disseminate information to other labs in their respective region so that the concept of quality can percolate to all the levels of the labs even in the remotest of the areas.
The improved quality management systems will put forth the first step towards National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration (NABL) implementations in their own labs.
