Stresses on the impact of climate change on global food security
Chandigarh, June 16
Department of Community Medicine & School of Public Health, PGIMER, Chandigarh and Association for Health Systems Analysis and Strengthening jointly organized “1st National Capacity Building and Training Workshop” from 15th June-29th June 2022 timings as 10:00 am – 4:00 pm.
The workshop was commenced under the chairmanship of Dr Arun K Aggarwal, (Prof & Head, DCM & SPH) and Dr Poonam Khanna, (Associate Professor (Nutrition), DCM & SPH). The workshop was inaugurated by Dr Krishan Kumar Gauba (Sub-Dean Research, PGIMER, CHD) and Mrs. Parvinder Kaur, Deputy Director (Dept. of Social Welfare, CHD).
The convener of the workshop, Dr Poonam Khanna started the technical session focusing on multi-disciplinary concept of public health nutrition and its co-relation with Sustainable Development Goals. She also stressed on the impact of climate change on global food security.
Discussing about the importance of proximate principles of food, Dr Shweta Upadhyay, Consultant; UNICEF (ESARO) highlighted the importance of Carbohydrates, Proteins and Fats in the diet and their related deficiencies. Dr. Sirimavo Nair, Professor, MS University, Baroda focused on the role of micronutrients in the body and their current trends in India through data from various national and international surveys conducted. Dr Rachana Srivastava, Program Officer (DCM&SPH) provided hands-on training to the participants on Personal Food Quest and Conscious grocery shopping.
Participants are medical practitioners, students, research scholars, nutritionists & doctors from different regions.
