15 LAKH PLANTS WILL BE PLANTED BY FOREST DIVISION IN THE MOHALI DISTRICT


SAS NAGAR, JULY 1:

In a bid to increase the forest cover and to inculcate the green consciousness among citizens, the SAS Nagar District Administration today kickstarted a special plantation drive in urban and rural area of the district. On the first day 17000 saplings of various categories of plants were planted in the rural area whereas 3350 saplings were planted in the urban areas of the district.
Disclosing this here today Mr. Amit Talwar, Deputy Commissioner said that in line with the celebrations of the “Azadi ka 75 Amrit Mahotsav” the district admiration has decided to set up 75 Nanak Bagichis in the urban areas falling within the limit of all Urban Local Bodies (ULB) and Municipal Corporation SAS Nagar.

He said that these 75 Nanak Bagichis will be set up till 15 August 2022.
Divulging the details of the plantation drive on the first day Mr. Talwar said that 17000 saplings have been planted in the different villages across the district with a target to plant 2 lakh saplings during this rainy season.

He said that these saplings in the rural areas have been planted on the village common land whereas the saplings will also be planted on such Shamlat land which still has not been auctioned out. He said that apart from this 50,000, potholes have been dug where the saplings would be planted in the days to come.


Mr. Kanwar Deep Singh, DFO Mohali while sharing the details of activities executed by them said that the Forest Division is also undertaking a massive plantation drive in the district with a target to plant around 1.5 million or 15 lakh plants at various sites in the district. He said that this included 6 lakh plants which will be planted in the forest areas of District at Derabassi, Siswan and Mohali. He said that besides these 5 lakh plants will also be distributed to the citizens of the district for free, to be planted at suitable sites by them. Likewise, more than 2 lakh plants will be distributed to panchayats and urban local bodies for plantations in rural and urban areas by the forest department.
