Littering streets? Be ready to cough up fine of Rs. 11,576 in Chandigarh

Chandigarh, July 4:-

 The next time you plan to dump garbage on city roads, think twice, as the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh is dealing tough with such violators who litter the city streets and imposing a challan of Rs 11,576.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh said here today that dumping garbage or littering in streets or parks is now a thing of the past. The MCC has planned to deal strictly with people who throw garbage or other items on roads and public places.

While sharing the details of challans issued to the violators who litter on city streets, the Commissioner said that MCC has issued 89 challans having penalty of Rs. 11,576/- each during the month from April to June, 2022.

The Commissioner has issued strict orders to trace miscreants in the city and also to identify people who litter the streets and public places with garbage and penalize them. She directed the concerned inspectors to click pictures of the defaulters, who dump the trash and fine them.

The Commissioner said that the campaign to nail down such defaulters of littering the city streets will continue throughout the year. She said that within the past three months, there are considerable changes visible in the landscape of the city. This has been done as the campaign has been converted into a people’s initiative with the active involvement of all sections of the people including Councillors, Resident Welfare Associations, Market Welfare Associations, government departments and school children.

She said that the initiative is to bring people participation in the cleanliness drive and create awareness among citizens of the city beautiful on cleanliness and hygiene.
