Justice  Sant Parkash, Conducts Inspection at District Jail, Faridkot

Chandigarh/Faridkot, Punjab :-   Justice Sant Parkash, Chairperson of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, conducted a thorough inspection of District Jail, Faridkot, today at approximately 2 pm. The visit aimed to evaluate the conditions of the jail and address the concerns of the inmates.

Among the distinguished officials present during the visit were:

 Vinit, Deputy Commissioner,  Harjit Singh, SSP,  Ajitpal Singh, CJM-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority Rajiv Arora, Superintendent, Jail and     Shri Shamsher Singh Shergill, DSP

The esteemed delegation was warmly received in the jail premises by the Deputy Commissioner, SSP, CJM-cum-Secretary, DLSA, DSP, and other officers of the Civil and Police Administration.

As of the inspection date, the District Jail housed a total of 2337 inmates, including 2238 males, 99 females, and five minor children with their mothers.  Justice Sant Parkash actively engaged with the inmates, addressing their grievances, and imparting information about their legal rights. The visit included a thorough examination of the jail kitchen, where the Chairperson personally tasted the meals and found them to be of commendable quality.

A visit to the Jail Hospital revealed that six Tuberculosis patients were currently admitted. They expressed satisfaction with the medical care provided by the jail’s medical staff. The question of specialist doctors was addressed, with the Superintendent informing that a Psychiatric doctor is stationed in the jail, and other specialists visit as required.

Chairperson Sant Parkash took note of several grievances raised by the inmates, promptly redressing some on the spot by giving directions to the concerned officers present.

The proactive approach of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission, as demonstrated by this visit, emphasizes its commitment to ensuring the well-being and rights of inmates in correctional facilities. The Commission continues to play an active role in addressing issues promptly and maintaining the dignity of those under its purview.
