Chandigarh, July 20
The Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration organized a camp for “Distribution of Aids and Appliances to Divyangjans” (under ADIP Scheme) free of cost in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), the implementing agency under the scheme today at Tagore Theatre.
The occasion was graced by Sh. Dharam Pal, Adviser to Administrator, Chandigarh with Smt. Nitika Pawar Secretary Social Welfare.
The Adviser appreciated the initiatives of GOI including Accessible India Campaign, Assistance to Disabled Persons for Purchase/Fitting of Aids & Appliances (ADIP) Scheme and said that the emphasis of all such initiatives is on equality, accessibility and opportunity for all Divyangjans.
The 600 Aids and Appliances including artificial limbs, motorized tri-cycles, wheelchairs, smart canes, smart phones, daisy players, Braille kits etc. were distributed for free of cost to 432 beneficiaries having multiple disabilities. Out of these identified beneficiaries, 200 Divyangjans are residents of Chandigarh and others belong to neighboring states.
Sh. Dharam Pal shared that under the Accessible India Campaign, 39 Govt. buildings of Chandigarh have been made 100% accessible for Divyangjans. Efforts are being made in this direction to make remaining Govt. buildings & public buildings of the city 100% accessible for Divyangjans in the near future.
The Adviser lauded the initiatives taken by the department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development for upliftment of the Divyangjans like financial assistance to 4,894 Divyangjans of Chandigarh under Disability Pension Scheme. He also highlighted about the 24×7 Women Helpline ( toll free numbers 181 and 9915023456 ) that are extending its services to Children & PwDs in need.
During COVID pandemic, a Special Covid-19 Vaccination Camp in Association with Health Department for Persons with Disabilities was organized. During this camp, Divyangjans were provided free of cost pick up & drop to designated Vaccination Centres. During the Special Vaccination Camps, around 1500 PwDs along with their care givers were facilitated for Covid Vaccination. Also, for the benefit of the PwD and post COVID patients with reparatory difficulties, Post COVID Special Clinic was started at Govt. Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector-16, Chandigarh.
On these lines, the Department of Social Welfare, Women & Child Development has been actively working for inclusion and growth of Divyangjans and ensuring more respectable and independent life for them through different programs. Today’s distribution of Aids and Appliances was organized in association with Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO) wherein artificial limbs, motorized tri-cycles, wheelchairs, smart canes, smart phones, daisy players, Braille kits etc. are being distributed for free of cost.
The department has distributed 83 smartphones for Visually Impaired individuals, 53 wheelchairs, 11 motorized tricycles along with 121 different assistive devices for orthopedically handicapped individuals, 148 hearing aids for hard of hearing individuals and 15 MSIED kits for Mentally Ill individuals for their socio-economic empowerment and upliftment.
