Panjab University organises workshop on “GST and its Implications

University Institute of Applied Management Sciences, Panjab University in association with Rashtram Labs, Chandigarh organised a workshop on “GST and its Implications” on 13th October 2023. The key resource person for this workshop was CMA Anil Sharma, an expert in taxation and a Member of the Indirect Tax Committee at ICMAI.
CMA Anil Sharma spoke to students at UIAMS about GST and its implications. During his presentation, he also explained the challenges the government faced during its implementation. He also spoke about the importance of GST in helping to create a unified market in India. He stressed on the importance of understanding the complexities of GST and the need for all stakeholders to work together to ensure successful implementation.
Prof. Monika Aggarwal, Director, UIAMS welcomed participants to the workshop. She also encouraged them to take advantage of the resources available to help them become more familiar with the GST system. After the presentation, participants had the opportunity to ask questions and clarify any doubts they had regarding GST’s successful implementation.
Paper Reading Contest on Disaster Management
The Department of Public Administration organized a Paper Reading Contest on the theme of Disaster Management to celebrate International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction 2023. In 1989, UN General Assembly designated 13th October as the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction to promote a global culture in this regard. The theme of this day for 2023 is – Fighting Inequality for a Resilient Future. In light of the increasing frequency and severity of natural and man-made disasters, this day was celebrated to raise awareness and knowledge about disaster management strategies. Many students participated and delved into this important subject, learnt about effective disaster management techniques, and shared their insights with the fellow student community.
Mr. Nitish Kumar, Ms. Riddhi and Ms. Vidhi won first, second and third prize respectively. The programme was attended by research scholars, students and faculty of the Department. Dr. Bharati Garg, Chairperson of the Department congratulated the prize winners and participants and encouraged active participation in curricular activities.

Science and the vibrant world of commercial potential came together at the International Conference on Industry-Focused Research (ICIFR, Technology Enabling Centre – TEC 2023). The audience witnessed the union of science and the thriving world of business opportunities. Panjab University hosted an innovative blended event on 13th October 2023 (Friday). The event was jam-packed with students and scientists from premier institutions. Around 60 scientists from 35 different institutions presented their cutting-edge state-of-the-art technological innovations to motivate students to initiate their own pursuits revolving around these technologies. Three parallel sessions took place simultaneously at three different locations on campus, sporting a zeal to learn and evolve.
A day-long program spanning 7 hours was filled with presentations related to manifold industries including Food, Agriculture, Chemicals, Medicine, Pharmaceuticals, Sustainable Infrastructure, Manufacturing, Automobile, and Automation. Another collection of noteworthy highlights was from the technical sessions catering to diverse portfolios and audiences and also including the hint of academia with the presentation of research papers by scholars. Every topic of the presentation was insightful and ingenious. The bridging of the academic and industrial gap was rightly addressed with the highlight of discussion on novelty. The issues of patent, First Examination Report (FER), market potential, and the targeted audience were repeatedly discussed showcasing varied sustainable businesses. The event brought forward technologies and research, presenting an open field of magnificent and tangible opportunities for students looking for business plans, teams, funding, and the push to move ahead.
RupinderTewari, Department of Science and Technology- DST (Ministry of Science and Technology) appointed mentor of TEC, emphasized the energetic and budding world of start-ups and the immense potential of the youth. Industry analysts and veterans who were presiding over the proceedings helped the presenters with feedback on their presentations and encouraged students to participate and converse. Raman Suri, Chairman of the management committee of TEC, reminisced about the evolution of research and appreciated the bundle of opportunities that the technologies of today present.
The presenters openly explained their conducted works in the labs and strategically displayed their respective problem statements, methods, and solutions. There was proper inclusion of the commercial and funding queries. The platform also proved successful in focusing on the need for indigenous products and the ‘Make-in-India’ motto. Presenters had prepared the prototypes of their research and received adequate suggestions from the people in the audience.
The venues were abuzz with a magnificent display of enthusiasm and fervor. The interesting and thought-provoking presentations included remarkably monumental technologies which the students and the audience were greatly inspired and motivated by. Many of the cutting-edge technologies were a big hit and truly showcased the promising future and talent that not just these scientists but the world in general possesses. The day culminated with bright minds coming together and looking forward to the future of optimal amalgamation of science and technology in all industries.

Department of Defence and National Security Studies, Panjab University in collaboration with Forum for Awareness of National Security, Chandigarh Chapter organised a one day seminar on the theme “Pakistan Crisis: Impact on India & South Asian Region” at Rajiv Gandhi College Bhawan, Panjab University, Chandigarh on October 13, 2023. Dr Shaveri Thakur, Department of Defence and National Security Studies welcomed the Speakers, guests as well as faculty members, research scholars and students present for the event. She also introduced the theme of the seminar by giving the details of the Objectives and the Programme of the Seminar.
National Conference on ‘Global Science for Global Wellbeing’
Sectional programs of National Conference CHASCON 2023- A mega event at Panjab University Chandigarh were held in various departments. The scientific activities were held at nine sections including, Basic Medical Sciences, Chemical, Dental, Earth & Environmental, Engineering and Management, Mathematical Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Physical and Life Sciences. Total 980 registrations were made in this scientific eventand547 abstracts were submitted by the UG/PG students and research scholars from different organizations in oral and poster categories.Scientific lectures were delivered by the seventeen eminent speakers from different CRIKC and neighboring Institutes.
