Bansal demands Government College, School and Hospital at Manimajra
Chandigarh , November 1, 2023
Assailing the recent decision of the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation to
auction, a School and College sites at Manimajra, Pawan Kumar Bansal, former M.P.
has termed it as betrayal of the common citizens by the BJP. Earlier there was a
move to auction land for a private hospital also. Bansal said that by deciding to
auction these properties for building educational and health infrastructure, the BJP
led Administration has abdicated its own duty and is actively pursuing a policy which
will lead to exorbitant cost of education and health services, provision of which is one
of the basic duties of a government.
Bansal also recalled that the land measuring 20 acres which is now sought
to be auctioned, including a 4 acre plot in pocket 4 & 5 at a reserve price of over
rupees 113 crore, was acquired in the year 1990 at a modest rate of only Rs
1,65,400 per acre for a public purpose and not to benefit private parties. Bansal
further said that earlier, the BJP had reiterated the Congress’ decision to start a
Government College and Hospital at Manimajra.
Bansal demanded that if the BJP is true to its avowed claims of serving the
people, it should immediately withdraw the proposal of the Municipal Corporation
and instead take immediate steps to build the three institutions in the public sector.
