CCPCR   organizes awareness session on  POCSO Act

Chandigarh, 25th October 2023, Chandigarh Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CCPCR) organized awareness session on Safe Touch-Unsafe Touch, Child Rights & Responsibilities, POCSO Act, Cyber Security & Digital Wellbeing at Govt. Model Sr. Sec. School (GMSSS), Sector-32, Chandigarh.

While speaking on the occasion, Ms. Shipra Bansal, Chairperson, CCPCR highlighted that Child Safety and security is of utmost importance for a progressive nation. Therefore, it becomes imperative for all the children to know about their rights and the various helping legal instruments meant to be for their protection and safety. She further emphasized that along with knowing about their rights, children should also be aware about their roles and duties too. Apart from this, Cyber Safety is need of the hour to avoid any instances of Cyber Crimes such as Cyber-Bullying, Pornography, etc. She further motivated the students by sharing her inspirational life experiences.

Ms. Ankita, POCSO Consultant, CCPCR explained the four broader categories of Child Rights defined by United Nations Convention on Child Rights (UNCRC). Talking about the POCSO Act, she threw light on the different forms of child abuse and indicators to identify those. Students were also made aware about the Cyber Bullying and Cyber Security. Number of the relevant Child protection agencies like Child help Line (1098) and Cyber safety Toll free number 1930 were shared with the participants.

Ms. Ashu Walia, Principal, GMSSS-32, Chandigarh appreciated the Commission for conducting this awareness session. She further thanked the Chairperson, CCPCR for inspiring the young minds with her words of wisdom. Queries and feedback from the participants were also taken at end of the session. Ms. Shikha Sharma, Counsellor and staff of the school were also present during the event.
