Chandigarh gets two Community centres at sector 20 & 30

Chandigarh July 11:-

Smt. Kirron Kher, Member Parliament, UT, Chandigarh today inaugurated two Community Centres in Sector 20 and Sector 30, here in presence of Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor, Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner, Smt. Taruna Mehta, area councillor, representatives of Residents Welfare Associations and prominent persons of the area.

While addressing the gathering, the Member Parliament said that the Community centres offer an opportunity for people to become involved in a wide range of activities. They promote a sense of belonging and social inclusion. They provide a place where the community can meet and engage in collective activities. She said the centres are strategically located to serve the citizens which are used for cultural programmes, to organise marriages and for other social activities.

She said the idea of the community centre is to offer a place where all members of the community from young to old can meet for various activities. All too often it’s the only such place available in a community.

The Member Parliament said that the city beautiful has Community Centres in each sector generally that cater for a variety of community activities. She said the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation not only facilitating the public in a better manner through centralizing the services of booking of Community Centres through e-Sampark, but keeping the system impartial in terms of booking these centres.

Smt. Sarbjit Kaur Dhillon, Mayor said that Community centre building at sector 30 has been constructed covering area of 18500 Sq. ft. and spread in a plot area of approximately one acre. Rupees 4.50 crores expenditure has been incurred in the construction of the building. This community centre have capacity to accommodate 500 people in one time party and sufficient parking space.

She said that the community centre was best of its kind in city and consisting of hall, care taker room, bridal room and toilets for ladies and gents in the ground floor. While gymnasium, indoor games, lobby, library, three rooms, open terrace and toilets for ladies and gents in the first floor.

The Mayor said that this community centre is a good asset to the residents of local area as they can organize parties and other programmes in very nominal government rates in their doorsteps.
