Chandigarh Voters: Setting the Standard for Democratic Participation
Sh. Vinay Partap Singh, IAS District Election Officer-cum-Returning Officer, Chandigarh, has announced that a total of 448007 out of 659,805 eligible voters in the Chandigarh Parliamentary Constituency casted their vote. These figures are provisional, as the Election Office is expected to release the final voter turnout after reconciliation of the data submitted by the polling parties.
Polling commenced promptly at 7:00 AM across all polling booths following a mock poll conducted between 05:30 AM and 06:30 AM to ensure a smooth voting process. A significant rush was observed at polling booths in the forenoon hours, with voter turnout recorded as follows:
7:00 AM to 9:00 AM: 11.64%
9:00 AM to 11:00 AM: 25%
11:00 AM to 1:00 PM: 40.14%
1:00 PM to 3:00 PM: 52%
3:00 PM to 5:00 PM: 62.80%
The overall voter turnout in Chandigarh stood at 67.90%
Voters who entered the polling booths before 6:00 PM were also allowed to cast their votes.
The citizens of Chandigarh effectively utilized the CVA app, benefiting from reduced waiting times and a more streamlined voting process. The app’s real-time queue updates, polling booth locations, and timely notifications significantly enhanced the overall voting experience.
NSS volunteers played a vital role in assisting senior citizens and Persons with Disabilities (PWD) in the electoral process. The volunteers also conducted door-to-door campaigns, urging citizens to vote and actively engaged in grassroots efforts to boost voter participation.
The polling process at all the polling booths was peaceful and uninterrupted.
