Confederation of Indian Industry welcomed the appointment Mr V K Janjua as Chief Secretary, Punjab. Mr Amit Thapar, Chairman CII Punjab State Council remarked that Mr V K Janjua in his administrative career has long been associated with Industry in the state. Be it his stint as Director, Industries & Commerce, Punjab in 2007, wherein he was instrumental in taking the local Industry’s feedback for the Industrial Policy of 2009 or the recently amended labour laws by state Government last year, Mr Januja has been receptive to progressive ideas for the larger interest of the state. Mr V K Janjua’s appointment as Chief Secretary has sent right signals to the Industry and the larger business fraternity that the new Government has set its sights on reviving the state’s economy through Industrial growth.
Mr Bhavdeep Sardana, Immediate Past Chairman, CII Punjab hailing Mr Januja’s appointment as Chief Secretary remarked that CII is privileged to have worked with Mr V K Janjua in amending the archaic labour laws last year. It was under Mr Janjua’s guidance that Punjab has amended certain provisions of the Industrial Disputes Act, 1947 (“IDA”), the Contract Labour (Regulation and Abolition) Act, 1970 (“CLRA”) and the Factories Act, 1948 (“FA”). Mr Januja was the guiding force in bringing the Industrial Disputes and Certain Other Laws (Punjab Amendment) Ordinance, 2020 which has brought noteworthy changes to certain provisions of the IDA and CLRA which will definitely help in promoting Brand Punjab to attract Investment and Industry to the state.
Dr P J Singh, Vice Chairman, CII Punjab State Council also lauded the move by new state Government to anoint Mr V K Janjua as Chief Secretary as Mr Janjua besides his huge administrative experience also is considered approachable with the knack of getting the tasks accomplished.
