Cyclothon Promoting Mental Health Awareness Held in Chandigarh

Chandigarh,

 Under the able guidance of Prof. Priti Arun, Head of Department,

Psychiatry, GMCH, the Cyclothon event flagged off today at 6 am from Sukhna Lake to Mental

Health Institute (MHI) Sector 32, Chandigarh. The event, a highlight of the ongoing Mental

Health Awareness Week from October 4th to 10th, witnessed an enthusiastic participation of over

100 cyclists.

Sh. Ajay Chagti, IAS Secretary, Medical Education & Research, UT Chandigarh, graced the

occasion as the flagbearer, along with the esteemed presence of Prof. Jaswinder Kaur, Director-

Principal, Government Medical College & Hospital. The event was organized by the Department

of Psychiatry, GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

The Cyclothon aimed at promoting mental health awareness and well-being in the community,

recognizing the pivotal role physical activity plays in maintaining mental health. The event set

off from the picturesque Sukhna Lake, with participants covering the distance to MHI Sector 32

with enthusiasm and commitment.

The Cyclothon successfully combined fitness, fun, and a meaningful cause, making it a

memorable event in the Mental Health Awareness Week calendar. The Department of Psychiatry,

GMCH, looks forward to continuing its efforts in promoting mental health initiatives and

encouraging a holistic approach to well-being in the community.

The Cyclothon was done in collaboration with ‘Parivartan’ an non-governament organization

working for the welfare of persons with mental illness and their families in UT Chandigarh and

Umeed Society working for the employability prospects of individuals with intellectual disability

through the pursuance of strategies to articulate the cause and assuring the contemplation such

individuals deserve while catering to their needs by substantiating a neutral environment that

fosters inclusion as well as growth.
