8th International Day of Yoga was celebrated today on 21st June 2022 between 7-8 AM by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar State Institute of Medical Sciences (AIMS), Mohali.
This function was the culmination of 3-week daily morning yoga sessions going on in the college campus where college faculty as well as MBBS students participated with vigour and enthusiasm. The theme of today’s International Yoga Day 2022 was ‘Yoga for Humanity’ and the whole programme was organised, conducted and led by the M.B.B.S first year students of AIMS, Mohali.
The Yoga experts Dr Rajiv Mehta and Ms. Garima Kapoor were invited as guests for the day. The faculty of AIMS, Mohali including Dr. Bhavneet Bharti, Director Principal and Dr. Suchet Trigotra, Yoga Co-ordinator and Professor & Head, Department of Physiology joined the students and performed yoga with great zeal.
The common yoga protocol as shared by the AYUSH Ministry and NMC was followed starting from Prayer, warm up exercises, Surya namaskar and Pranayama and Shanti Path. Satvik Bhojan was prepared in the hostel mess of AIMS, Mohali and served after the session. Dr Rajiv Mehta and Ms. Garima Kapoor talked about the importance of Yog and Satvik Bhojan in our life.
Various key body parameters of participants like blood pressure, height, weight and BMI were recorded before and after the session. Another distinctive feature of today’s function was a quiz competition among MBBS students based on “Yoga and Anatomy” conducted in the auditorium of AIMS, Mohali using a specialized software ‘mentimeter’. Miss Disha , Miss Manpreet and Miss Tisha , stood first , second and third respectively in the quiz.
Finally, it was further decided that on 21st of every month, a common Yoga session would be regularly held in the campus to remind us of the importance of Yoga in our daily life.
