Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker launches tree plantation drive in MDC Sector-6

Sh Gupta appealed to the people to plant at least one tree and pledge to protect it

Panchkula, July 15 – Haryana Vidhan Sabha Speaker, Sh Gian Chand Gupta, took forward his mission to promote greenery and reduce pollution in Panchkula by initiating a tree plantation drive in MDC Sector-6, here today. The event took place at the HEWO Society Park, where Sh. Gupta planted a sapling and urged residents to plant at least one tree and pledge to protect it.Organized by the Women Ministry Group, a collective of women from the Tri-city area, the drive commenced with Sh. Gupta lighting the traditional lamp. The group aims to plant as many trees as possible in the parks of MDC Sector-6 with active participation from local residents.

Every person must plant a tree in the name of mother

Sh Gupta said that on the occasion of World Environment Day on June 5, Prime Minister, Sh Narendra Modi had launched a unique campaign in the name of Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam in Delhi. The Prime Minister had said that ‘as much respect as we give to our mother who gave us birth, we must give the same respect to Mother Earth who nurtured us. Planting a tree in the name of our mother will not only honor our mother but will also protect Mother Earth. He also affirmed the Haryana Government’s commitment to enhancing the state’s greenery and reducing pollution, in alignment with the Prime Minister’s vision. Under this, the Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam scheme has been started in Haryana too. He said that every person must plant a tree in the name of mother.

Expressing concern over the problem of environmental pollution in the world, Sh Gupta said that this year, temperatures in several districts of Haryana have reached as high as 50 degrees Celsius due to which people had to face a lot of inconvenience. He appealed to every family to plant at least one tree as a simple yet impactful step towards environmental conservation. He also encouraged individuals to commemorate significant personal milestones such as a child’s birthday, a wedding anniversary, or any joyful occasion by planting a tree. The Vidhan Sabha Speaker said that a growing tree is the symbol of a progressive nation. Haryana's economy is agriculture based. Trees and forests play a big role in keeping the land fertile for agriculture. Therefore, we have to develop forests by planting more and more trees and protect trees and plants, the more trees there are, the cleaner our environment will be.

Oxy-van is being set up in Panchkula district

Referring to the Covid pandemic, he said that the Covid pandemic had taught us all that oxygen is most important for saving lives. Keeping this in mind, the Government started a scheme to build Oxy-van in every district for environmental protection. Under this scheme, the work of setting up Oxy-van on 100 acres of land is in progress in Panchkula district as well.

Pension of Rs 2750 is given for the maintenance of trees above 75 years of age

Sh Gupta said that the government has implemented the Pranavayu Devta Pension Scheme, under which a provision of pension of Rs 2750 per year per tree has been made for the maintenance of trees above 75 years of age. Similarly, schemes like ‘Har Gaon Pedhoon Ki Chhaanv’, ‘Paudhagiri’ and ‘Har Ghar Hariyali’ are also being run successfully in the state.

International level medicinal forest established in Morni

He said that the government has developed herbal parks in various districts of the state for the conservation and promotion of medicinal plants. An international level medicinal forest has been established in Morni area. Similarly, Nagar Van is also being developed in Panchkula.

Addressing Water Logging Issues

During the event, residents reported water logging issues in HIWO Park. In response, Sh. Gupta instructed the SDO (Horticulture Wing) of Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP) to install a rain harvesting system within a month. This system will help resolve water logging issues and enhance underground water levels.

Improving Park Maintenance

To address cleanliness concerns, Sh. Gupta directed HSVP to install a board in the park displaying the names and contact information of key officials, including the Superintendent Engineer, JE, and SDO. This measure will allow residents to directly contact the officials for park-related issues. He also requested a list of gardeners assigned to maintain the parks in MDC Sector-6 and Sector-2.
