Chandigarh, June 10
The presentation focuses on the use of remote sensing in our world. Tools such as Satellite images, Air Photo, CCTV Cameras were shared with the students.
Important implications of location services that are constantly used in our cell phones were addressed. An important issue that was shared with faculty and students was related to Gandhi ji and the peaceful use of these tools. If these tools were available during Gandhi ji’s time, he would have embraced them as tools for communication but he would have cautioned the users also about the drawbacks. He would have kept in view the rights of individuals.
These views were expressed by Dr. Rakesh Malhotra, Associate Professor, Department of Environmental, Earth and Geospatial Sciences, NORTH CAROLINA CENTRAL UNIVERSITY, Durham, North Carolina, USA who is on Foreign Visiting Faculty in the Department of Gandhian and Peace Studies, PU, Chandigarh .
In his expository talk, Dr. Rakesh highlighted that how we keep the positivity of these tools for the betterment of the humanity and as tool of brotherhood as a very thin line is always between the right and wrong. As these tools are just like our 5 sensing organs of the body.
