Mayor flags off ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ at ward No.35

City wide Yatra to collect soil from all 35 wards under ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign

Chandigarh, September 29:-

Hundreds of citizens joined the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ organized by the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh in collaboration with Department of Culture, UT Administration, under the Centre’s ‘Meri Maati Mera Desh’ campaign to mark 75 years of India’s Independence, here at Sector 48 which covered ward No.35 today.

City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta flagged off the ‘Amrit Kalash Yatra’ at ward No. 35 in the presence of Sh. Rajinder Sharma, area councilor and hundreds of local residents. The yatra traveled through all the societies in the ward and hundreds of people gave soil in the ‘Kalash’ (urn), raising Nationalist slogans enroute.

While briefing about the yatra, the Mayor said that all the 35 wards of city beautiful will be covered under this yatra and this ‘Kalash’ shall later be sent to New Delhi for a National programme on ‘Amrit Kalash’ to be held next month, along with 7500 such urns from all over the country. He said that the civic body would continue the ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh’ campaign during the month of October, 2023 in the city.

He further said that people from the colonies, villages, societies will collect soil/grain in the urns that will be taken to New Delhi for a mega-event scheduled late next month.

Today’s ‘Kalash Yatra’ saw citizens of ward No. 35 participating enthusiastically, marching in a parade to the beat of band and then joining the gathering to take the pledge of ‘Panchprana’, along with the Mayor and area councilor present there.
