MCC to treat wastewater generated from Gaushalas in city
*Lays foundation stone for installation of effluent treatment plant of 40 KLD at Gaushala Sector 45 & 20 KLD at Gaushala Sector 25*
*Chandigarh, December 13:-* Aimed at treating the wastewater generated from the Gaushalas, which improves the quality of the wastewater and removes harmful substances, the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has started the work of installation of Effluent Treatment Plants (ETP) at Gaushala Sector 45 and Gaushala, Near Cremation Ground at Sector 25, Chandigarh.
City Mayor Sh. Anup Gupta today started the work of installation of Effluent Treatment Plant of 40 Killo Litter per Day (KLD) capacity at Gaushala Sector 45 and 20 KLD capacities at Gaushala Sector 25, Chandigarh in the presence of Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Municipal Commissioner, Sh. Gurpreet Singh Gabi, area councillor, officers of MCC and prominent persons of the area.
While speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said that the work of installation of ETP at Gaushala, Sector 25 will be completed within two months at a cost of Rs. 101.93 lacs having capacity of 20 KLD while the installation of ETP at Gaushala, Sector 45 will be completed within two months at a cost of Rs. 151.93 lacs having capacity of 40 KLD.
The Mayor said that it was essential to construct ETPs to treat the liquid excreta of the animals, which contains high amounts of BOD and COD, which need to be treated to acceptable standards before they can be discharged into the estate sewerage system. He said that it was crucial to treat this waste to prevent any harmful impact on the environment and maintain the hygiene and sanitation levels of the city.
