Chandigarh,

On the occasion of National Science Day, NAVGRAHA VATIKA was inaugurated by Chief Guest Prof. (Dr) Renu Vig, Vice Chancellor, PU, Chandigarh at P. N. Mehra Botanical Garden, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh. At the outset, Prof. (Dr.) Promila Pathak, Chairperson, Department of Botany  extended warm and gracious welcome to Chief Guest Prof. (Dr) Renu Vig, Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, PU, Chandigarh and Guest of Honour Prof. (Dr.) Harsh Nayyar, Dean Research and Development Cell. During the event, Prof.

Pathak apprised that it is innovative addition to P N Mehra Botanical gardens and will create awareness amongst the masses about the relevance of the Navagraha Vatika (garden of 9 planets represented by the plants or trees or bushes or grasses which are planted in a particular direction to get the benefit of planets as each plant represents different celestial forces).

It creates positive energy and purifies air, brings prosperity, good health and wealth. It removes vastu dosh. We cannot limit the study of Indian plants based on their therapeutic values but we should also consider their use from astrological point of view. Astrology along with Ayurveda shows how we can heal ourselves through the herbs corresponding to their particular star.

In this endeavour, we hope to raise awareness about these sacred Navagraha plants, which are important as better remedies for a variety of maladies. The event was well attended by teachers, non-teaching staff, research scholars and students of Botany Department, guest invitees and the press media both in print and electronic, for wide coverage of the entire event.

Department of Botany also organized Science Quiz. There were 10 teams (2 students each) participated out of which seven teams were qualified for the main round. Out of these, three teams were declared winners.
