The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) The National Standards Body of India, is making significant strides in fostering quality awareness among India’s youth through its Standards Clubs initiative. The program aims to equip young minds with the knowledge and appreciation of standards, thereby contributing to a more vibrant and prosperous nation.
In a recent development, the Haryana branch of BIS has established over 450 Standards Clubs across 12 districts in Haryana state of the northern region. These clubs, comprising teachers and students, provide a platform for young talents to explore the field of quality and standardization.
Through a variety of activities, including science-oriented activities and interactive workshops, students gain valuable insights into the importance of standards. Through exposure visits to industry, they learn about manufacturing process and hygiene practices. Exposure visits to industries offer first-hand experience of how standards are applied in real-world settings.
Children are the future, and it’s imperative to instil in them the importance of quality. By forming Standards Clubs, BIS is empowering young minds to become advocates for quality and contribute to the overall development of our nation.
The initiative has garnered enthusiastic support from educational institutions, which recognize the benefits of incorporating standards education into their curriculum. By participating in Standards Clubs, students not only enhance their academic performance but also develop essential skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork.
The BIS has called upon consumer organizations, NGOs, and voluntary organizations to join the initiative and facilitate the formation of Standards Clubs in educational institutions across India. By working together, we can create a generation of quality-conscious citizens who are committed to building a stronger and more prosperous nation, it believes.
Launched in 2021, the Standards Clubs initiative has gained significant traction, with around six- thousand educational institutions embracing the program. Over 1.7 lakh students from science backgrounds have joined these clubs, guided by dedicated science teachers who serve as mentors.
The BIS provides specialized training to these mentors, equipping them with the necessary knowledge and skills to guide their students effectively.
The BIS believes that quality consciousness is a cornerstone of accelerated economic development. By instilling this value in young minds, the organization aims to create a generation of individuals who are committed to excellence and innovation.
Finally, the BIS Standards Clubs initiative is a valuable tool for fostering quality consciousness among India’s youth. By providing students with opportunities to learn about standards and their applications, the BIS is empowering the next generation to become advocates for quality and contribute to the overall development of the nation.
