Chandigarh: Citizen’s parliament held for creating awareness regarding ban on single use plastic

Chandigarh June 20:-

Swarmani Youth Welfare Association, an NGO roped in to creating awareness among masses to spread awareness about ban on SUP , organized first ever citizen’s parliament under single use plastic management in collaboration with the Municipal Corporation Chandigarh and the Department of Environment Chandigarh at Burail village last evening.

Smt. Sarbjit Kaur, Mayor, Chandigarh was the chief guest during the function. Different spokesperson were present having various backgrounds like School, College, Students, Teachers, Business persons, Shopkeepers and NGO’s.

While addressing the different stakeholders, the Mayor stressed upon the need of bringing change in the behaviour and attitude of people not only in Burail but in entire Chandigarh. She said that discouraging people from using single-use plastic, the MCC has been seizing plastic carry bags from the markets and at the same time efforts are being made to propagate the concept of cloth bags.

Sh. Kanwarjeet Singh, area councillor and other prominent persons of local area were also present during the event.
