CRIKC-Igniting Young Minds, an initiative for nurturing scientific temper through social outreach for school students, conducted three workshops at Govt. Model High School, Sector 22C, Chandigarh on 24th Sep, 2022.
A workshop on Ray Optics was facilitated and conducted by Deepak, Rajat, Harsimran and Komal, from Department of Physics, Panjab University, Chandigarh, for Class X students, to complement their course curriculum. Practical demonstrations of the phenomenon of reflection, refraction, and dispersion kept the students spellbound.
A mentorship workshop to generate project ideas for the forthcoming National Children Science Congress was also conducted for junior and senior level students, by Madhvi and Arshpreet, Department of Botany, Panjab University. The students came up with brilliant project ideas on the focal theme of congress ‘Understanding Ecosystem for Health and Wellbeing’. The submissions for DST-INSPIRE-MANAK competition were drafted and finalised, under the guidance of UIET students team comprising of Akshpreet, Puneet, Kuldeep, Prashant, Yashasvi, and Yashraj. Prof Gaurav Verma, Coordinator, CRIKC, Dr Jaspreet Kaur, Incharge, CRIKC-Igniting Young Minds, and Mrs Anuradha Gupta, Headmistress, GMHS-22C, coordinated the event. They also had a meeting with the nominees of local Resident Welfare Association to plan the development of open spaces in the school premises for sports and fitness activities. By innovatively using the public-private-partnership model, CRIKC intends to develop infrastructure in government schools, which can be used effectively by residents of adjoining localities.
