MCC’s efforts drain out accumulated water within 30 minutes after rain

Chandigarh, June 30:-

The Municipal Corporation Chandigarh has put its best efforts to drain out the accumulated water within 30 minutes after rain. The 18 teams of Municipal Corporation swung in to action during the rain from 8.30 am in the morning and assumed their respective areas with sufficient machinery and manpower.

Ms. Anindita Mitra, IAS, Commissioner Municipal Corporation Chandigarh constituted these 18 teams to control the waterlogging during raining. There was heavy rain fall of 68.2mm from 8:30 AM to 11:00 A.M on today in the city.

However to cope up with the situation, the staff of 18 flood control teams drained out water from some low lying areas by using pump sets/suction machines. The inconvenience remained for some hours during the rain but all accumulated rain water was cleared within 30 minutes through the underground storm water drainage system.

The Commissioner stated that MCC is persistently making best efforts in the public interest from the last three months to clean the road gully and manhole chambers of storm water drainage system and also repairing the road gullies etc. It is pertinent to mention that the stagnation of rain water occurred due to heavy rain fall and rising of bed levels of the natural choes. Hence water was flowing in the natural choes above HFL (highest flood level).

Control Centre has also been made operational round the clock in three shifts with telephone number: 0172-2540200 at water filling station Sector 15 Chandigarh and 2nd in Manimajra (Water Works-II, MHC) Telephone No: 0172-2738082.
