Punjab: Dairy farming has potential to strengthen cooperative movement, says Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal

Chandigarh, June 27:

With a view to give boost to the dairy development sector in Punjab as per the directions of the Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the Animal Husbandry, Dairy Development and Fisheries Minister Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal today met the Board of Directors of Anand Milk Union Limited (Gujarat) better known as Amul. The Minister expressed keen desire to learn from the best practices of the ‘Amul Dairy’ so as to benefit over 3 lakh dairy farmers in the State.

The main rationale behind the meeting was to encourage the Punjab dairy farmers, associated with 7300 Milk Societies run by VERKA, to adopt the innovative marketing strategies of Amul to ensure value addition to their products besides introducing some new ones.

Emphasizing the concept of Domestic Milk Farming, the Minister said that this sphere has futuristic dimensions and its potential needs to be harnessed to boost dairy farming consequently strengthening the Cooperative movement. “Women especially must be encouraged to go for this novel concept as it would go a long way in augumenting the income of the family apart from empowering them”, said the Minister adding that milk farming Sector has the capability to do better than the present.

Recounting the humble beginnings of Amul since the days of Verghese Kurien, the MD Amul Dairy Amit Vyas further said that the digitization in the day to Day functioning of the institution is the need of the hour in keeping with the present times. “The focus would however be on the rural areas as a large number of population lives in such areas”, added the MD.
