Surprise inspection of Anaganwadi Centres of Chandigarh 

Chandigarh, June 2

Smt. Nitika Pawar, Secretary Social Welfare, Women & Child Development, Chandigarh Administration and Smt Shalini Chetal, HCS, Director Social Welfare, Women & Child Development made a surprise inspection today of Anganwadi Centres , Crèche of Sector 41, Chandigarh and Anganwadi Centre Butrela area for monitoring ICDS Scheme and POSHAN Abhiyaan.

​​At present there are 3 ICDS Projects comprising of 450 Anganwadi centres functioning in peripheral areas, villages, colonies and slum areas of U.T., Chandigarh. Total 57291 beneficiaries under the Scheme are children in the age group of 0-6 years, pregnant women and lactating mothers enrolled under ICDS.

​​Secretary checked the Records and Registers of Anganwadi Centres. She also visited POSHAN Vatikas developed within the premises of Anganwadi Centres and it was observed that Poshan Vatikas were not being maintained properly. It was directed to conduct audit of all Poshan Vatikas immediately and Capacity building of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers should be taken up in convergence with Department of Ayush & Horticulture for revival of POSHAN Vatikas and their utilization as per the guidelines of the scheme.

​​Hot Cooked Meal as being provided under Supplementary Nutrition Programme was tasted and it was directed that the quantity of food being supplied under programme should be sufficient and as per the number of children enrolled at Anganwadi Centre. The Secretary directed that there should not be any wastage of food and distribution should be done as  per norms provided by Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India.

​​Directions were given to Anganwadi Workers to prepare consolidated report of all the children of school going age, so that the same may be got enrolled in the schools in coordination with Department of Education.

The Secretary directed all the concerned officials to ensure to provide services under the programme and as per guidelines of Ministry of Women & Child Development, Govt. of India.
