Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University holds Seminar on ‘International Women’s day’

The University School of Law, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, Fatehgarh Sahib organized
‘International Women’s day’ on 13 March 2024, under the patronage of the Vice Chancellor
Dr. Pritpal Singh. The Event was attended by all the students and Faculty Members of the
Department and was graced by the presence of the esteemed guest and senior members of the
University.
Dr. Sunaina Assistant Professor, formally, Welcome the dignitaries present on the occasion and
spoke briefly on the theme of the event.
Dr. Param Jeet Singh Convener and Head of the Department elaborated the theme on the Women’s
day i.e. “Inclusive Inclusion”. He referred to the Hindu Succession Act, 2005, Uniform Civil Code and
the change of position for the married women in the year 2010 on Adoption laws.
The Key-note Speaker Madam Parmjit Kaur Landran, Member SGPC, focused on the various
achievements of the women and highlighted about their rights. She stressed that Education should
be imparted to all the women and then only their problems would be redressed which are based
upon ground realities. She specifically referred to vishaka’s case and pointed out the various
difficulties the women faced while discharging their duties. She further observed that one woman is
often found to be an enemy of another woman which should be avoided at every cost.
She referred to Mamata Banerjee Chief Minister of West Bengal and told the girls student present on the occasion to learn from the struggle and achievements made by Mamata Banerji. She further
pointed out the girls should work hard to become Judicial officers and must be prepared to claim
and achieve their rights including right to Inheritance.
The guest of Honour, Madam Simrali Lamba, Member of the Permanent Lok
Adalat (PUS), Fatehgarh Sahib, discussed the role of women in the judiciary.
Lamba’s insightful remarks shed light on the challenges and opportunities faced by women in the legal profession. She
emphasized the importance of gender diversity within the judiciary to ensure fair and impartial
justice delivery. Mrs. Lamba’s speech sparked contemplation among attendees, prompting
discussions on how to further enhance women’s representation in the legal field.
Dr. Pritpal Singh, Vice Chancellor, highlighted the various aspects which has weaken the positions of
women in the society and suggested various ways for their improvements. He pointed out the
various historical incidence and referred to various Slokas of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji which are
committed towards improvement of the status of women and their empowerment. He reiterated
the university’s commitment to fostering inclusivity and Equality.
Lovleen Kaur and Harsimar Kaur, Students of Law discussed the role of women in present context
quoting Gurbani quotes and various historical perspectives. Advocate Gulshan Kumar, expressed his
views on role of women in various spheres of life. Ms. Prabhjot Kaur and Ms. Rajandeep Kaur
actively participated in the organization of the event.
At the end of the programme Assistant Professor Dr. Supinder Kaur extended the vote of thanks.
The celebration concluded with a renewed sense of commitment in advancing gender equality and
empowerment of women.
