Action against NPO for supplying poor quality Take Home Ration

 Chandigarh, July 13

​​In U.T. Chandigarh, 3 ICDS Projects comprising of 450 Anganwadi centres are functioning in peripheral areas, colonies and slum areas for disbursing Supplementary Nutrition, Pre-school non-formal education, Nutrition & health education, Immunization, Health check-up and, Referral services. Supplementary Nutrition Programme plays a vital role to improve the nutritional and health status of ICDS beneficiaries’ i.e.  Children in the age group of 6 month – 6 years, Pregnant Women & Lactating Mothers. To prepare and supply the Supplementary Nutrition Food in all the 450 Anganwadi Centres, 4 Non Profit Organization (NPOs) have been engaged by the Department.

​​The Child Development Project Officers, Lady Supervisors and Block Team POSHAN Abhiyaan are deputed to visit the Anganwadi Centres and kitchens of NPOs on daily basis to check the quantity and quality of food.  During the monitoring visit on 13th July, 2022 at Indira Colony, it has been noticed that 143 no. of packets (approx.89 kg) of Roasted Jowar received from NPO on 11th July, 2022 which were to be distributed today were of poor quality.  Thereafter, the distribution was stopped immediately.​

​​The Department has taken a serious view of this incident and the NPO has been instructed to replace the substandard Roasted Jowar with fresh stock immediately, said the official statement. Further, as per terms and conditions of tender notice, penalty is being imposed on the NPO for supply of poor quality Supplementary Nutrition.
