Deputy Commissioner reviews the progress of Catch the Rain-22 campaign of Jal Shakti Abhiyan

 Mr. Amit Talwar,Deputy Commissioner today held a high level meeting with the officers to review the catch the Rain-22 campaign of Jal Shakti Abhiyan launched by the Government of India for the conservation of water resources and prevention of depletion of ground water level.

Disclosing this here today Mr. Talwar said that today various activities being carried out by the district administration for the conservation of water resources and prevention of falling ground water level in the district were reviewed in the meeting.

He said that the concerned officers have been directed to carry out geo-tagging of rivers, canals, ground water management, rain water conservation in the district under the Amrit Ka Mahotsav on the occasion of 75 years of independence in the district. 

 He said that directions have also been issued to accelerate the establishment of hydropower plants and planting of trees.  He said that it was the duty of all of us to take care of every drop of water.  He directed the authorities to make as many people as possible aware of the importance of water and ensure its misuse. 

 He also asked the officials to take steps to conserve and store water in government and non-government organizations such as hospitals, dispensaries, banks, schools and colleges so that it could be reused.

Divulging more about the campaign, the Deputy Commissioner said that rain water conservation, restoration of traditional water sources, repair of water ponds, ponds and planting of new plants were the mainstays of the project.  He also reviewed other ongoing projects in the district related to water conservation and augmentation of forest cover in the district.

Mr. Talwar directed the officials of the Municipal Corporation to make strong arrangements for the conservation of rain water resources.  He also asked the officer to liaise with the forest department to plant more trees and take care of them.  He urged the people to be especially involved in this campaign.

 On this occasion Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mrs. Amaninder Kaur Brar, Additional Deputy Commissioner Pooja S.  Grewal and Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Mr. Amardeep Singh Gujral, SDM Mohali Mr. Harbans Singh, SDM Kharar Mr. Ravinder Singh, SDM Dera Bassi Mr. Himanshu Gupta and other officials were specially present.  .
