Kangana Ranaut plays Indira Gandhi in ‘Emergency’ movie, shares first look; fans say, “Fantastic actor”

NIO Desk, July 14

Kangana Ranaut has unveiled the first look from her upcoming film, Emergency, which is currently in the process of shooting. Emergency, which is produced by Kangana’s production banner Manikarnika Films, stars Kangana as former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

The film’s first look teaser, released on Thursday, begins with a man taking a phone call and soon walking towards a big office. In the teaser, a woman is seen standing in the hallway, looking through some files. The man informs her that the President of the United States has requested if they address her as “Madam.” She captioned it, ‘Presenting ‘Her’ who was called ‘Sir’ #Emergency shoot begins.’

Her fans flooded the first look video with appreciation posts.

A fan wrote, “I can see a solid storyline, immaculate acting and brilliant sets. Can’t wait to watch at the theatres. Best wishes to the team.”, while others wrote, “No words to describe how brilliant this actress is, had chills watching the new look.”, “ It’s high time guys now we must support talented people like her,” Some wrote, “She is a fantastic actor, no doubt. This movie adds another milestone to her career and yet again proves how powerful her acting is.”

It would be an understatement to say that Kangana’s transformation into Indira Gandhi is unrecognisable. Not only does she look the part, but her acting closely matches the accent and body language of India’s former Prime Minister.

Earlier, Kangana shared her first look as Indira Gandhi from the film. She wrote, “Presenting #EmergencyFirstLook! Portraying one of the most powerful and controversial women in the history of the world.”

Emergency is written by Ritesh Shah. Shah also wrote her last project Dhaakad. In June, Kangana had announced that she got renowned prosthetic makeup artist David Malinowski on board for the film Emergency.

David has won several awards, including the 2018 BAFTA and Oscar for Best Makeup and Hairstyling in the 2017 film Darkest Hour. Some of his other work includes World War Z (2013) and The Batman (2022).
