PGI’s Deptt. of Transfusion Medicine commemorates World Blood Donor Day 2022

Chandigarh, June 14

To commemorate World Blood Donor Day 2022, the department of transfusion medicine simultaneously organized three voluntary blood donation and motivational drives with collection of 326 volunteer blood donations from all the drives together.

Voluntary blood donors braved the hot weather and donated with fervour to celebrate the World Blood Donor Day 2022 in line with the slogan of “Donating Blood is an act of Solidarity. Join the effort and save lives” released by the World Health Organization.

Donors were felicitated with gifts, pens and certificates as a mark of token for their act of solidarity.

The  Governor of Punjab and the Administrator of Chandigarh, Shri Banwarilal Purohit, flagged off the World Blood Donor Day campaign in the city by motivating blood donors on audio message played by the All India Radio (AIR), Doordarshan, Prasar Bharati, Chandigarh. 

He also inaugurated first voluntary blood donation and motivational drive conducted by the department of Transfusion Medicine PGI at the Punjab Raj Bhawan, Chandigarh, where donors donated in the airconditioned mobile blood donation vehicle. The Administrator of Chandigarh motivated the blood donors towards regular blood donation and thanked them for the gift of life.

The second voluntary blood donation and motivational drive was inaugurated by Director PGI Prof. Vivek Lal, at the Blood Donation Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh in association with Thalassemic Charitable Trust, Chandigarh (Regd.).

He expressed his heartfelt gratitude towards the volunteers and the voluntary organization for motivating blood donors.

The third voluntary blood donation and motivational drive was inaugurated by the Mayor of Chandigarh Mrs. Sarabjit Kaur, at the Bridge Market, Sector 17, Chandigarh which was conducted the PGI in association with Shree Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust, Panchkula (Regd.), Mahamai Mansa Devi Charitable Bhandara Committee Trust Panchkula (Regd.), Mata Mansa Devi Complex, Panchkula, Shiv Shakti Sewa Mandal Bhudlada (Branch Chandigarh), Leathers Den, Sector 17, Chandigarh and Smile Forever.

A bunch of ceremonial colorful balloons were released in the air by dignitaries, which included the mayor, centurion blood donors Shri Parag Raj Sharma, Shri Ashwani Kumar Munjal, Shri Ajay Gupta, Shri Randeep Batta, Shri Rajan Raikhhy, Shri Bhupinder Singh in presence of Shri Rakesh Kumar Sangar, President, Shree Shiv Kanwar Mahasangh Charitable Trust Panchkula and Dr. Suchet Sachdev, Associate Professor, Department of Transfusion Medicine, PGIMER, Chandigarh.
